Daily consumption of nuts is associated with a lower risk of obesity and associated diseases. This is the conclusion reached by scientists at Harvard University in the United States. Briefly about the results of the scientific work reported in a press release MedicalXpress.

The study involved 51 529 men aged 40 to 75 years working in the health sector, and 238 386 nurses 24 to 44 years. Health volunteers tracked for 20 years. Every four years the participants reported their weight and frequency of consuming one serving of nuts (28 grams) for the previous year. We also evaluated the level of weekly exercise, including walking, Jogging, Cycling, swimming.

It was found that frequent consumption of nuts of any kind is associated with lower weight. So, an extra half portion of reduces the risk of growth of body weight is two kilograms for four years. The same amount of walnuts reduces the risk of obesity by 15 percent.

Scientists note that the study was observational, that is, it is not able to accurately determine the cause and effect. However, it confirms the data of other investigations. It is assumed that walnuts contribute to a large waste of energy in chewing and high fiber content causes a longer feeling of satiety.
